There are two pools, one at the house and one in the cortijo area. Both are 'eco- pools'. The house pool water is continually filtered through reed and water-plant beds, and is crystal clear. The pool at the cortijos is part of the large garden irrigation system, it is constructed as a 'proper swimming pool' but water flows continuously in and out to irrigate the 30 acres of organic planting. Both pools are minimally treated to ensure cleanliness without harming the delicate eco-system. It makes for a lovely swimming experience. Walks There are several scenic walks straight from the Finca, of varying lengths, including up to the mountain village of Huebro via the Ruta del Agua, around two hours each way, following the spring-fed stream past more than twenty small water mills, to the pool at the source of the water, where you can have a refreshing swim! There are also a couple of shorter walks near the Finca, one which includes a visit to an extinct volcano. Excursions There are several options for things to do in the area. Transport typically costs around €25 per head, depending on numbers and destination. Several sandy, secluded and unspoiled beaches can be found within approximately 30 minutes drive from the venue, inside one of Spain’s largest National Parks, the Cabo de Gata. There are also several charming coastal villages within the park, which make an idyllic location for a meal out at one of the many restaurants. The city of Almeria is half an hour from Nijar. The 10th century Alcazabar is a fortified complex within Almeria city and is the largest Muslim fortress in Spain. The cathedral is also impressive. The pretty, local village of Nijar is within walking distance and offers a variety of craft shops and picturesque places to sit and have a drink al fresco. There is also a tennis court in Nijar, and a nearby hotel offers horse-riding. What other people have said about our previous yoga holidays"What a lovely experience to have had - meeting everyone and being there in such a haven."
"What an amazing and beautiful week we shared. Happy memories of you all. First day back at work and definitely more grounded and very rested." "Fairlie's classes exceeded my expectations in challenging my habitual ways of thinking and practicing and I've come away inspired. Kat's teaching is very mindful and draws on a great breadth of yoga experiences and teachings." "I honestly can’t recall a holiday that’s had so much internal push and pull and emotional connection as this one ….I still feel like I’m processing all kinds of stuff….in a good way." "Everything was excellent - well organised, flowed beautifully from one activity to the next and felt in a safe place to explore the body and build confidence. The experience of finding and feeling and awakening in my body for the first time, despite many years of yoga, in such beautiful surroundings, made this week very special." "I had never been on a yoga retreat before and when my daughter suggested it I was a bit unsure. But it was amazing! The classes were very enjoyable and informative." "I was new to Scaravelli inspired yoga and I felt indeed inspired by both teachers and am still implementing things I've learned in my own practice." About the venueThe venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the pretty traditional local village of Nijar, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.
The venue consists of the main house the ‘Finca’, which won awards in the 80’s for its striking modernist design, and a group of converted traditional buildings, the cortijos, just a couple of hundred yards from the main house. It sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilisations. Accommodation
All rooms are en-suite. The bedrooms in the house are a little ‘grander’ than the simple cortijo style bedrooms, but the cortijos have their own kitchen/sitting rooms and terraces and are equally charming. Food Meals are vegetarian by default, served buffet style with fresh local produce, and include breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals are healthy and varied, with plenty of choice. We can cater for gluten and dairy free diets and for medical allergies. One night a week dinner is eaten out, usually on excursion day. |
About usTo read up about me, just visit the About page...
For Fairlie yoga is about connecting with the inherent wisdom of the body. Her yoga classes are an invitation to play with sensations of gravity, freeing the breath and awakening the spine, exploring openings and connections that our ‘normal’ movement and postural habits may not have allowed before. This different way of working with the body leads to a different experience of your being. You will be encouraged to work attentively and deeply and to experience the wonderful freedom of a mind and body at play, whether you are interested in learning the Scaravelli Inspired approach to yoga or simply looking to deepen your practice. Since 2003 she has followed the approach of the great teachers who were themselves students of Vanda Scaravelli: Diane Long, Sophy Hoare, John Stirk and others.
