Thai Yoga Massage for Pregnancy - a three-day course (20h)23rd-25th July 2021
You love giving Thai Massage treatments and would like to master more techniques and materials to also work with pregnant women. Maybe you would even like to specialise on pre-natal care. This course will provide you with all the knowledge and confidence to give a pregnant woman a complete and balanced Thai Yoga Massage, at any stage of their pregnancy.
Why is Thai Yoga Massage so great during pregnancyAs much as we are connecting with both mum and baby during a Thai Massage, the focus is really on the mother. It's about supporting her during times of great change, physically and emotionally. We can offer nurturing touch and deep connection to the Self, as well as help alleviate tension and other 'side-effects'.
It has been proven that massage in general during pregnancy can help to reduce stress, release tension, balance hormone levels, improve the potential for successful delivery and promote the health of mother and baby. The advantage of Thai Yoga Massage for pregnancy is that it takes place on the floor and that we can use a range of bolsters, cushions and blankets and different body positions, so that the mother and the bump are supported and comfortable throughout the session and can fully enjoy the benefits of this gentle bodywork. Pregnant women have reported a relief from nausea and fluid retention, release of tension in their back, around their hips and neck, an improvement in their breathing capacity, and the ability to sleep much better after having received a Thai Massage. During pregnancy, many women feel a little overwhelmed, stressed and emotional. And those feelings naturally get stored in the body and translate into physical discomfort. As with all Eastern practices, in Thai Massage we work on the whole Being, looking to re-establish balance and harmony on all levels. Lovely, intimate workshop. Katrin understands the special nature of treatment during pregnancy and the importance of doing less with more support and presence. She conveys the material in her crystal-clear and soulful manner. Would recommend it to anyone working or wishing to work with pregnant women. Communication is keyYes, we need to know the contra-indications and how to manage the big belly and all that, but the main thing is to listen to the mother. She knows best. So whilst we might be used to avoiding verbal communication during a ‘normal’ treatment in order to support the relaxation response, when working with pregnant women, it is absolute key to check in with the mother, give her explicit permission to change position when she wants, give her complete control over her own body, and thus establish an open, kind and clear communication flow between us and the mother. It will require a little more creativity and we need to be open to change our treatment plan from one moment to the next. The more we learn to fully integrate this communication flow in our treatment, the more the mother will feel safe and truly cared for.
